The Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam showcases both contemporary and modern art. I must confess that I do not know much about art in general but modern art in particular confuses me greatly. I often find myself lost trying to understand the meaning behind a piece but to no avail. This made for an intriguing experience at the Stedelijk Museum.

Important Information:

The museum is centrally located at Museumplein 10, 1071 DJ Amsterdam, right next to the Van Gogh Museum. It is easily accessible as there are many tram stops around Museumplein. Adult tickets are priced at €18.50 while tickets for students are priced at €10 so be sure to bring along your student identification for verification.

In light of the coronavirus, reservations must be made online as the museum is operating at a reduced capacity. Masks are mandatory inside the museum and do remember to maintain a distance of 1.5 metres from others. The Stedelijk Museum is one of the many museums in Amsterdam which accept the Museumkaart so if you are in possession of one, admission is free. You are however still required to book a time slot.

Why museums?

Thankfully, the two-week lockdown is over and museums have opened up again. There is not much to do these days due to the restrictions in place because of Covid. Heading to a museum with a couple of friends is a fun little activity that could brighten up your day. You get to look at art and hang out with friends. I did not really fancy museums growing up but I absolutely love them now.

I had a blast at the Stedelijk with my friends. The museum is easily navigable, just follow the arrows! The collection begins in the basement and continues on the second floor. There is also a really cool ping pong table on the ground floor. I love ping pong. The museum is not too big so its the perfect little activity should you have a free afternoon. I highly recommend a visit to the Stedelijk.

Museums are such wonderful places to learn. You can learn so much about so many different subjects depending on which museum you visit. I just ordered a Museumkaart myself. It is valid for a year and grants you access to many different museums all over the Netherlands. It is worth the purchase if you visit as many museums as I do. You have added flexibility as you can visit the museums as many times as you wish.
