5 Best Places To Chill In Amsterdam

Hulbert Travels - Museumplein, Amsterdam

Amsterdam is a beautiful city located in North Holland. The capital of the Netherlands is gorgeous however it can get a little expensive sometimes. Heading to a bar for a couple of drinks may not always be the most economic option. As a student on a budget relaxing around the city is my favourite thing to do. The following is a list of my favourite places to chill in the city. The best thing is that they are all absolutely free.

Museumplein

Hulbert Travels - Museumplein, Amsterdam

This is my favourite spot to chill in Amsterdam. It is located right next to the Rijksmuseum, Van Gogh Museum and the Stedelijk Museum. It is the perfect spot to visit on a sunny day and maybe have a picnic with some friends. Sunny days are hard to come by in Amsterdam so be sure to head down to 1079 RA Amsterdam when you get the chance. In my opinion, Museumplein boasts the prettiest skies in the whole city. I get off my bike to take in the view whenever I cycle by.

Vondelpark

Hulbert Travels - Vondelpark, Amsterdam

Vondelpark is a hit among tourists and locals alike. The park is quite extensive, stretching across 120 acres. Whenever I am feeling bored I grab a bottle of wine and head to Vondelpark. People are super friendly in the park; it is really easy to make friends. There are many entrances to the park but it is easiest to access it from the front entrance at Vondelpark, 1071 AA Amsterdam, located close to Leidseplein.

Amstel

Hulbert Travels - Amstel River

Watching the sunset by the Amstel River is a unique experience. The river cuts through the canals all the way into the south of Amsterdam. Grab a spot on a bench within the canal rings for the best view. As the sun sets, the windows of the canal houses catch the rays, reflecting an orange hue. I had a great time, snacking on my kebab as I watched the sun disappear in the distance.

Rembrandtpark

If you are looking for a quieter park to relax in, Rembrandtpark is just the place for you. Vondelpark can get pretty crowded sometimes, thankfully Rembrandtpark is located close by at Postjesweg, Amsterdam. Although Rembrandtpark is smaller than Vondelpark it is just as beautiful and there are trees everywhere like in any other park. Grab a mat and a bottle of wine to have a picnic by the pond.

Sloterplas

Last but not least we have Sloterplas. This park has something for everyone. It is located in the west of Amsterdam at Oostoever, 1064 GW Amsterdam. If you are looking to cool off on a hot day, take a dip in the lake. If you are looking to build some sandcastles, the park even has a beach. The park is enormous so do not worry about running out of space for a picnic. It is extremely refreshing being surrounded by nature, away from the hustle and bustle of the city.

This is my take on the best places to chill in the city after being here for a couple of weeks. I am certain there are many other places left to be explored and I will definitely get to them.
